@Ray: the "original" optibay is overrated. we purchased 4 "cheap knockoffs" and are perfectly happy with it. why paying more for the same material? the optibay is also built quite cheap. the "knockoffs" as you called it, are mounted inside the MBP anyway, so you will never see them. nanofunk can totally recommend using "knockoffs", since we never experienced any problems so far.

I've started getting this error recently just 2 days ago, I've never had this problem before, and the only thing I've changed was hooking up a new Wacom tablet (pen & touch), installed its software/drivers, it might've installed another program called Adobe Air (I really don't know what that is but I've seen a pop up before that I closed).

I'm using Chrome also, since it auto updates (along with flash), I don't know if an update started messing with my system.

My kernel_task will grow in size until it reaches 300-400mb and would slow my system to a crawl until I terminate Chrome and its flash plugin, then its memory usage will go back to 200, so as many have pointed out, it's flash related.

I'd just like to post this comment because for me, I'm pretty sure this problem started popping up just 2 days ago after I installed a new wacom tablet, I'm aware some probably doesn't have the tablet hooked up, but I thought maybe it could help pinpoint the problem and maybe it has to do with the input devices others have. What I'm going to do is uninstall the wacom driver, unhooking it and see if the problem continue after a few hours.

Howsit - thanks for the comparison.
I am looking for a cine style for Iphone 4s so that i can flatten the image to match my Technicolor cine style on my 7d.
Filmic pro can be used on the Iphone to set frame rate, lock exposure, lock focus and white balance. It would have been a perfect little app, if it allowed manual settings for sharpness, contrast, saturation and tone.

AnandTech compared the high-end early 2011 MBP to the low-end late 2011 model, which has a lower processor and less graphics memory). Why are you so shocked at the result? It's hardly a fair comparison.

TRIM is not required on Mac OS X, Mac OS handles that.
BTW.: Modern SSD drives handle that on the controller level. The OS doesn't have to do anynthing. Enabling TRIM in this cases even has the reverse effect: slower driver.

I updated the drives to 4TB samples I had in my Promise Pegasus R6... wow, it screamed and had a lot of capacity... until I left the unit all night and all my data was destroyed, the RAID Groups disappeared and I had a bunch of blinking lights on the box! Don't do it!

After countless attempts to reinstall Mac OS X Lion to a clean HD using a bootable DVD (which were always greeted by the "Can't download the additional components" message after a few minutes), and even testing the RAM with Memtest86 (-> all good), removing all but 4 GB RAM from my iMac finally let me reinstall Lion without a problem.

more than 6 months after the issue was reported, (and we have Apple Mac OS X 10.7.2 and 10.7.3 in beta) there is still no update on this issue from Adobe. Please <a href="http://forums.adobe.com/message/3825457#3825457" rel="nofollow">write your concerns to the Adobe Forums in the existing thread</a> to have them fix the issues! Especially for SSD owners this is unacceptable!

I'm having similar problem with Lion & Chrome and only when I try to play the Chrome widget "Dead Frontier" and a Facebook game that requires the Unity web player plug-in. My Intel Mac-Mini dead crashes with no warning and then restarts. The only notification I get that a crash took place is in Console:

12/18/11 5:02:27.000 PM kernel: Previous Shutdown Cause: 3

Chrome and any other programs I had running automatically start back up.
Chrome, though, at the top asks me if I want to reopen the page that crashed--I say No-of course.

Also it that Unity plug-in crashes in Safari and Firefox too, when I try to play the Facebook game Margaritaville. It's only a Beta version so it's not a browser problem in THAT case. Regardless, Chrome and Lion behave STRANGELY. I get weird warning messages occasionally about going to well-known safe websites like Google that it might not really be Google. I hit "ignore" but it is annoying. But if I restart my mac warnings go away for about 6 hours.

we tested a setup with 3TB drives (seagate barracuda XT, hitachi deskstar) although, we did not have the hardware for more than a week, so i cannot tell about any long term issues. as with any other raid setup (except the drobo) the drives have to be EXACTLY the same build. mixing drives will NOT WORK. we heard of some other people upgrading their drives without any issues. the drives were filled with data and erased several times.
as with any other product, keep in mind that the promise pegasus is quite new and there can be issues of course. also, wait for firmware updates, as there can be of course also issues with the main hardware unit! @TheArchitect: did you post a ticket in the <a href="http://kb.promise.com/" rel="nofollow">promise knowledge base</a>? I did not see anything there...

We configured Pegasus R6 with 3 TB Hitachi drives and RAID 5 w/o spare. Our customer experienced a big problem: After copying over 11 TB the volume disappeared and could not be accessed after rebooting the system. All data was lost. He did this a few times and it looks like there is a big problem when the Pegasus R6 has more 11 TB of data. Any idea? According to Promise support Pegasus is not compatible with 3 TB drives.

The reason for them is problems with Flash, I get most of these error when using Youtube.
Solution: join HTML5 project on youtube - youtube will use HTML5 rather than flash to play videos. At this point using the system becomes bearable.

Then to reduce these errors that are left try using OmniWeb instead of Chrome/Forefox/Safari. With Omniweb I dont get a sigle error of this type!

An adapter for Four-Thirds lenses to Canon EF type lenses is plainly not possible. MFT have a smaller image circle than Canon EF mount lenses, the projected image from the Four-Thirds or Micro Four Thirds lens will not fill the sensor on the 5d MK II or any other full frame camera. You get a circular image in the middle, surrounded by a black rectangle. So the short answer is: NO.

Just reporting the same error that other users have had, even after updating to flash player 11 beta. Fans are spinning like crazy and temperatures are up pretty high. I’m going to try uninstalling flash player, but this isn’t a solution; its just a stopgap measure even IF it’s successful.

I have tons of space on my hard drive, and tons of free ram too. I’m not sure if it’s related, but “fseventsd” in Activity Monitor is using a HUGE amount of virtual memory (1.52GB). Repaired disk permissions on my drives, verified my disk and the external as well. Still nothing.

UPDATE - It seems it worked after I removed the adobe Datak keychains, I had like 5 or 6 of them in my keychain. Since removing them, the console has not given me the error since.

Initially I thought this worked for me, but it turns out it didn't :(

I'm not running an English version of Lion, but the place you need to repair the keychain is the window where you get two options, to "check/verify" and "repair", and you have to enter your password below your username too, right?

Did not work for me. I ran KeyChain First Aid and no problems were reported. Earlier I had deleted one Adobe Datak keychain. The console log continues to report many Adobe Air messages. System also locks up forcing a hard reboot to get control back. All of this started with 10.7. Recently updated with 10.7.1 - no change.

while i personally think the new canon EOS 5D MKIII will be a great piece of hardware, it won't work with magic lantern out of the box for sure. also the price will be higher. furthermore, i think it is still a good deal to buy a mk2 NOW, since prices cannot drop for much.

I thought that the Flash 11 beta had solved this, but I now think not. To test I uninstalled Flash completely and after a couple of hours the freeze recurred (while I was using Powerpoint). No buffer allocation size error in Console. If fact there is nothing at all in Console recorded from the time of the freeze or immediately before.

Have that problem with frequent temporary freezes but think that it is not flash related. Have flash-blocker installed in Safari.
I do not see any related message in Console. Sometimes the CPU fan spins up, but activity monitor does not show any load peaks.

@aliquis we had the same issue here which disappeared after installing flash beta 11.0 from adobe labs and using safari instead of chrome -- chrome seems to come with its own version of flash, so switching to safari solves issues for now.

I've had this problem intermittently for some months on a 5-year-old C2D MBP. Sometimes the screen just freezes (except for the mouse) and sometimes the screen goes black and everything seems to freeze. Hard reboot necessary. Thought Lion might cure it but if anything it's got worse. Same buffer allocation message in console. Driving me insane.

I installed "Trim Enabler" and I am having temporary system freezes which I think is coming from Safari.

I installed the Flash 11 beta, we'll see how that goes. It's definitely something Trim Enabler caused.

I believe nothing could beat this beast in term of performance. Design wise, it's classical and no other pc laptop able to match with the unibody aluminum case. However, the worst part of the MacBook Pro is also the aluminum case. It is very prone to scratches cause by day to day usage especially using outdoor. I would suggest to get it cover up by skinstyler.com wrist rest products. They help to reduce the sharpness edge of aluminum case and also protect it from scratches. Do check out their classical designer collection to match with MacBook Pro http://www.skinstyler.com/wrist-rest-protection-cover-skin-designer-collection-c-26_25.html

What is with this company?! I bought a 2010 MacbookPro 17' used from the Apple store and had freezing problems. I returned it DOA and got my money back hoping this would be fixed for the 2011 model.

Now when I'm just about to buy a 2011 MacbookPro 17' for school (I'm a film student who edits) I find out about this.

So what should I do?

Buy a 2011 and hope it's fine, or buy ANOTHER 2010 and hope it's fine?

Any suggestions?

yes, we are still updating this post. still, if you are concerned about stability you should use a 32bit kernel. if you are running 10.6.8 you should not have any issues with the 64bit kernel - if you do, please let us know! the SATA "problem" does not apply to the MacBook Pros. The HDD runs on a SATA 6GBPs port, the optical drive on a SATA 3GBPs port. See our post on 32bit Kernel setting for more information: http://www.nanofunk.net/macbook-pro-early-2011-freezes-and-kernel-panics-revert-to-32bit-to-have-a-stable-system/

@Jack I have the same issue with the black and gray lines after mbp does NOT wake from sleep. I'm running a 13" mpb I've had for 5 days. Apple support is suggesting it may be an application I have called Air Display. Do you have this app, or have you found another solution to this problem?

Wow was really excited to get a new Macbook Pro 17" this year, as I'd been saving up and my 2006 model has been having some serious issues (not to get too sidetracked but it is a Dual Core, and the heat has caused the metal around the frame of the screen to warp and distort and finally crack since I need to close the damn thing). Looks like I'll have to wait till the next model! I bet apple makes a new one to coincide with there OSX 10.7 Lion release...

I don't believe heat is really the problem nor the GPU.
I can get my 15" 2011 very hot due to GPU intensive stuff and the yes > /dev/null
No problem.
From a cold boot, i can install 2 big software at the same time (virtualbox installing ubuntu + Eclipse installation). It would then hard lock up.

The issue I think is with the SATA controller, when i do too many file access at the same time, that's when it locks up. Then the fans start to spin like if something was stuck in a loop.

I haven't even had a chance to deal with the overheating issue. My 15" Macbook Pro suffers from not being able to wake from sleep. This only happens when the machine goes to sleep with the cover open. A press on the keyboard or trackpad does nothing, the machine freezes and is unresponsive. Eventually get a screen with distortion and gray and black lines.

I returned my macbook because of the heating issue.

When I called Apple for this, they said its not a laptop, its a portable. It is not designed to keep on the lap. Did i just pay 2000$ for a laptop, but since Apple does not call it laptop, too bad?

I dont care if you change the terminology. It still is s fking laptop.

I am not going to pay 2000$ for a system which you tell me how to use. What else? Apple tells me I can only use my 2k machine 4 hours a day because its healthy and its not designed to run for more than 4 hrs a day.

in your simple delay, you should leave the maximum delay time fixed (set it high, maybe half a minute [tapin~ 30000] and no user changeable number box) and better include a control for the feedback (which is fixed in your example...)
